Iain Softley - Film Chair

Director, writer and producer Iain Softley is a native of England and graduated from Cambridge University, where he directed a number of theatre productions. He began his career working for the BBC’s documentary team directors, music and videos, in the 1980’s.

His directorial debut, Backbeat, earned a BAFTA Award nomination for Best British Film and brought him a London Film Critics Circle and Empire Award for Best British Newcomer.

He then directed Hackers, starring Jonny Lee Miller and Angelina Jolie in her feature film debut. Wings of the Dove starring Helena Bonham Carter and Linus Roache earned a number of awards and award nominations, including four Academy Award nominations and multiple acting honors for Bonham Carter.

His other film credits are K-PAX ( Kevin Spacey and Jeff Bridges),The Skeleton Key (Kate Hudson, Gena Rowlands, Peter Sarsgaard and John Hurt), Inkheart (Helen Mirren, Brendan Fraser, Paul Bettany, Jim Broadbent and Andy Serkis).

In February 2010 he directed his stage adaptation of Backbeat at the Glasgow Citizens Theatre.
