What We Do

Directors UK works on behalf of British film and television directors.  We collect and distribute money due to directors for secondary exploitation of their works, campaign for better rights and conditions and provide an active members organisation for directors.

Campaigns and Negotiations

Directors UK has an established negotiating role with broadcasters and producers, both on a one-to-one basis and collectively through the Directors Forum.

A major campaign mounted by DPRS in 2001 resulted in two important agreements with broadcasters:  The 'Rights Agreement', giving directors payment for the secondary use of their work; and the 'Terms Agreement' establishing a Forum for discussing issues relating to directors.  The latter resulted in agreed Contract Guidelines and Codes of Practice being published in 2003.   Click here to find copies of these.

We also campaign in both Westminster and Brussels to establish, protect and improve the rights of directors in the UK and abroad, to ensure that they are fully compensated for the work they do.

Details of any ongoing campaigns and initiatives will be regularly updated on this site.

Distributions

Directors UK collects and distributes money due to the principal director of a film or television programme for the exploitation of their work. Payments are collected from UK broadcasters and from Europe. Click on Distributions to find out more.
