When it came to guest speakers, this year’s 3D Creative Summit at the BFI could boast some of the biggest in the business, from 3D doyen Chris Parks to “national treasure” David Attenborough. Biggest of all though was surely double Oscar winner Ang Lee, both figuratively and literally, as Ang addressed his audience via the giant cinema screen in NFT1 whilst sitting in New York.

My first contact with Directors UK was simply a "cheque in the post” from them as a collection agency. My first meaningful contact was to join a steering group to help focus the mechanics of distributing income to directors in a fair and equitable way.

I first became actively involved in Directors UK when I was working for the BBC. I was directing a production that was both very ambitious but under resourced.

I was elected onto the board at the end of 2011, and was delighted to discover such a dynamic and forward thinking team of creative people.  I decided to stand because I felt the status of the director had been falling, and in particular the number of women directors in drama had decreased.  I wanted to understand why, and then see what could be done about it.
