Full house for Directors UK Production Show event

Reading time: 2 minutes and 18 seconds

Last week Directors UK hosted an event and stand at the BVE/Production Show at Earls Court 2. The event, focusing on Directors Rights, saw CEO Andrew Chowns, Head of Legal Charlotte Brotherton and Board members Dan Clifton and Delyth Thomas give information and advice on how to protect your copyright and moral rights to a packed out audience.

The stall was also very popular, and it was a great opportunity to meet directors from a range of genres and experience to let them know more about the organisation.

Delyth and Dan sent us their thoughts on the day too:

“There's something unquantifiable but rather cool about being in a room full of fellow directors, who've all come together to find more out about Directors UK - what it can do for them and what it means to become a member of a community of fellow professionals.

With Board Member Delyth Thomas, Chief Exec Andrew Chowns and D-UK's Head of Legal Charlotte Brotherton, we had a chance to talk about what we're doing at the recent Production Show held in Earl's Court. It's dominated by the tech companies selling their wares, but it great to experience the buzz of an event like that as well as to see what's happening in the very fast changing world of camera technology. It seems like a new game-changing camera is reaching the market every six months or so, with last year's Alexa buzz being followed this year by interest in the new Canon C300, a nice bit of kit by all accounts.” Dan Clifton

“It's quite something, The Production Show; feeds the inner geek with stands displaying everything from a 100ft super technocrane to tiny mounts for tiny HD cameras, feeds the outer geek with a wide range of seminars, talks and demonstrations for anyone in production.

The Directors UK panel being pretty much first up on the first day, it was hugely gratifying to have a full to overflowing receptive house. There was to a lot of interest after the talk from experienced directors with legal problems, students at film schools, and directors at the beginning of/ at the early stages of their careers. Particularly talking to the latter, many of whom felt frustrated and isolated, it confirmed for me just how important this organisation is.

Thanks to the staff on the D uk stand who were informative, professional, and did us directors proud.” Delyth Thomas
