Ken Loach’s latest film The Angel’s Share was awarded the Jury Prize yesterday (27th May) at the Cannes Film Festival.
The Angel’s Share sees an ex-offender (and new father) discover a new and unorthodox way out of poverty after a trip to a whisky distillery. Upon receiving the award, Loach, speaking in French, said:
"Thanks to the jury; you're very nice. Cannes shows us that cinema is not just a diversion, it shows us who we are and how we live together."
This year’s Palme d’Or went to Michael Haneke's 'Amour', whilst Reality, by Matteo Garrone won the Grand Prize.
