Andrew Chowns - Chief Executive
Andrew worked extensively for a number of years within ITV, the UK’s main commercial TV channel, and in 1993 became the Controller of Legal and Business Affairs for ITV Network Centre. In 1998 he was charged with launching the digital channel ITV2 and went on to become the channel’s Commercial Director. Andrew became the Head of Business Affairs and Deputy Chief Executive of Pact in 2001 (the trade association representing over 500 UK independent film television and digital media producers and distributors). In 2006 he became Chief Operating Officer and Director of Business Affairs for Pact, and was responsible for overseeing the terms of trade with broadcasters, negotiations with unions and collecting societies and other major business affairs matters. Andrew was appointed chief executive of Directors UK in 2010. He has overseen the organisation’s transition from primarily being a collecting society to a fully-fledged professional association for all screen directors in the UK.

Andrew’s assistant and the general office and HR manager at Directors UK supports Andrew in his role whilst overseeing the general day-to-day running of the office.
Simone Cammarota - Director of Distribution
Sim started working for Directors UK in 2005 as a Distributions Assistant before becoming Head of Distribution in 2008. He is responsible for managing the Distributions Team and ensuring that payments are distributed accurately, efficiently and transparently. He has a BA in Modern History.
Nikki Hopper - Head of Foreign Collections
Nikki has worked at Directors UK for 10 years and is responsible for all aspects of the collection and distribution of members’ payments from foreign collecting societies. Prior to joining, she worked in publicity and marketing for various film companies including Warner Bros. and Artificial Eye.
Laura Bannister - Distributions Manager
Laura joined Directors UK in Spring 2010 and has enjoyed overseeing the mass distributions to members. She is a big TV fan, and an even bigger theatre fan; but only for special occasions. TV is an everyday pleasure.
Jonathan Hart - Distribution Supervisor
Jonathan joined Directors UK as a Distribution Assistant in February 2015. When not monitoring television and tracing directors he loves going to the cinema, playing football and burying his head in a good book. Prior to joining, Jonathan previously worked for film and television in various production roles.
Kate Parish - Membership Officer
Kate joined Directors UK in October 2012 as a Distributions Assistant and is now our Membership Officer. She studied English Literature at the University of East Anglia, and has a Masters in Medieval and Early Modern Textual Cultures. Kate watches all sorts of TV and films, but has a special love for detectives and period dramas. She is happy to be contributing in some way to an industry she enjoys so much.
Sam Hoy - Foreign Administrator
Sam is a Foreign Administrator at Directors UK, which involves a lot of spreadsheets, data processing and television monitoring to ensure that our members are appropriately recompensated for transmissions of their work in the UK and in Europe. Sam joined in August 2011.
Richard Anderson - Distributions Administrator
Richard joined Directors UK in April 2016 as a Distributions Assistant having moved to London from North East England where he grew up and studied at Newcastle and Durham University, gaining an MA in Philosophy focusing on Modern Aesthetics. He enjoys getting to as many gigs as he can, writing about and reviewing music, as well as spending as much time as possible cycling in and around London and snowboarding a little further afield.
Eleanor Jest - Distributions Assistant
Eleanor completed her BA Hons in Classical Civilisations at Roehampton University in 2014. She then worked for a Inspections and Certification company, before joining Directors UK in May 2016. Outside of work she loves books, podcasts, camping, board games and cinema trips. She has a personal record of watching over 200 films at various cinemas across London in one year.
Nick Roberts - Distribution Assistant
Nick joined Directors UK in June 2018, and holds a background working in film distribution. He has a BA in Media Studies gained at the University of Surrey. Outside of his interests in film and TV, Nick enjoys listening to music, playing tennis and visiting art exhibitions.
Emily-Jane Tossell - Distribution Assistant
Emily joined Directors UK in April 2016. Prior to that, she spent a year travelling Australia and in 2014 she graduated from Ravensbourne, where she received a BA (Hons) in Digital Film Production and worked on a range of productions including the London Olympics. Outside working hours, Emily enjoys listening to Korean Pop and travelling.
Emma Donald - Distributions Assistant
Emma joined directors UK as a distribution assistant in September 2018. She graduated with a degree in Ancient History from Cardiff University in 2017, after which she spent a year working in Australia. Outside of work, Emma enjoys swimming, travelling and going to see live comedy.
Victoria Morris - Head of Communications and Public Affairs
Victoria looks after our external communications including Press, PR and Public Affairs and works with the Web and Events teams. Victoria joined Directors UK in August 2008 having previously worked in programme making at the BBC and in Regional and Public Affairs at Carlton (ITV).
Natasha Moore - Campaigns Engagement Manager
Tash joined the Directors UK Campaign team in November 2017, after completing her Master’s Degree in Feature Screenwriting. With nearly twenty years in marketing, communications and PR to her credit, writing is her sustaining passion. As well as being creative ‘on the page’, she’s been known to crochet, make pickle, direct community theatre productions and sing.
Tolu Akisanya - Communications and Campaigns Officer
Tolu has worked in PR for over 10 years across sports, finance and entertainment. She has previously worked as a publicist for one of the UK’s leading independent distribution companies, with a range of theatrical and home entertainment titles/releases.
Marc Abbs - Digital Manager
Marc began working at Directors UK as a Distribution Assistant in 2010, joining the web team in 2014. As well as working on the website and Directors UK's social media outlets he is responsible for gathering and manipulating data as part of the company's research projects.
Chris Young - Digital Officer
Chris joined Directors UK in March 2017 having previously worked in PR, journalism and publishing. He currently assists in running the Directors UK website and social media channels. He has an MA in Creative Writing, and routinely obsesses about books, film, dogs and Newcastle United.
Laura Adams - Head of Member Services
Laura joined the Directors UK team in spring 2016 as the Head of Member Services and is responsible for member benefits, events and career development. With a master’s degree in film studies, many years as a film and events programmer at the British Film Institute, and having worked in publicity at several independent film distributors, Laura is looking forward to learning more about television. Laura’s a big fan of science fiction film, TV and literature, and has published and broadcast on the subject.
Andrea Corbett - Skills and Career Development Manager
Andrea joined Directors UK at the end of 2015 and is responsible for all training initiatives, skills and career development. Previously, she managed the Creative Skillset Film Academy at the London Film School after a period working in Dublin where she was Head of Festivals at the Arts Council of Ireland and Executive Director at the Dublin Film Festival. Many of her previous roles have involved the development of film and TV skills and training including: her time at the UK Media Desk at the BFI; film and training advisor for film at the LFVDA (now Film London); and PACT, where she began her career managing the training levy and working with independent producers based across the nations and regions.
Amy-Jo Bryant - Events and Member Services Manager
Amy-Jo recently joined as the Events and Members Services manager, where she will be working closely with the team to deliver on multiple projects and help create a diverse programme of events, benefits and services for Directors UK members. AJ has previously managed events for the Film and Television Charity, Everyman Cinemas, The BFI and Secret Cinema.
Sean Thomas - Member Services Co-ordinator
Sean graduated in 2015 with a BA (Hons) in History, and joined Directors UK as a Distributions Assistant in 2017. He has a background in both finance and television production. Sean is a big football fan, loves music and enjoys watching a range of different TV shows in his spare time.
Guy Gibbons - Finance Director
Guy is a chartered accountant with broad experience across a range of blue chip and smaller businesses, mainly within media and publishing. The earlier part of his career was within the Pearson PLC group, initially in head office roles, with subsequent periods at two of their operating companies. He went on to work for several mid-sized and smaller businesses primarily in the business-to-business and consumer magazine publishing sectors. He hopes to make a strong contribution to Directors UK during a period of development and growth.
Andrea Marlowe - Financial Controller
Andrea joined Directors UK in February 2017. She comes from a mainly creative background having spent many years in advertising, architecture, film, animal charity and retail, in similar senior finance roles. She brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the table, and assists Guy in ensuring the finance department runs efficiently and effectively. A big movies fan, Andrea loves comedy, sci-fi and anything Star Trek.
Donna Thomas - Head of Legal Affairs
Donna is a qualified lawyer who previously worked at Zodiak Rights (seconded at Reed Smith). She has been involved in acquisitions, licensing, consumer products from television and film content, and dealing with other media related rights issues. She is responsible for providing legal advice and services to staff and members, including contract vetting and assisting with the lobbying activities of Directors UK.
Charlotte Brotherton - Senior Legal Advisor
Charlotte joined Directors UK in August 2011 having been previously Head of Legal Affairs at the sales agent The Works International. She is responsible for providing legal advice and services to staff and members, including contract vetting and assisting with the lobbying activities of Directors UK. Charlotte originally qualified with London law firm Goodman Derrick in 2005 where she was involved in TV and Film financing transactions, production and rights issues.
Bhavesh Mistry - Head of IT
Bhavesh is good with computers. When we lose our IP address he gives us his. Working in IT for over 15 years, for various industries, Bhavesh decided to make the big move to London in 2011 from his hometown of Leicester. Bhavesh's last employment was for an international producer and distributor of music films and programming for cinema, television and physical media. Artists such as Queen, The Rolling Stones, and Eminem to name a few. Bhavesh’s ability to take risks and think outside the box brings a refreshing mind from traditional views of development and strategy. Bhavesh has a passion for Snowboarding and travel. He would like to take his girls to the mountains, but his wife says 6 months old is a bit young to be shredding the pow.
Nicole Bandoo - Database and IT Support Officer
Nicole joined Directors UK in October 2016 as a Database and IT Support Officer. She provides day to day support to maintain the database and IT systems. She had previously worked within the charity fundraising sector after graduating with a BSc in Computer Systems Technology from the University of Westminster. Outside of work she enjoys going to the cinema, working out in the gym and promoting a healthy lifestyle.
